The meeting, organized by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Motions), sets the stage for a food research project aiming to secure the development of a “sustainable system, accessible and healthy for all."
Lorenzo Tonini, Probios R&D Manager, held in Commission a speech on the topic of research and innovation opportunities for the sector, possible thanks to funding allocated by the European Commission Program, Horizon 2020.
“Producing healthy and sustainable food is the goal that, day after day, moves the organic sector. - says Tonini - The sector can play an important role in the design and implementation of food research project of the European Commission. Companies are laboratories of creativity and innovation, daily involved in improving the quality of their products and the health benefits, while reducing their environmental impact”.
To achieve these targets, Probios suggested to invest in focused and specific projects aimed at motivating and innovating the organic sector. In terms of agronomic research, the company has proposed to create a bridge between the agricultural sector and the compartment of processing and distribution, while in terms of scientific research has promoted initiatives to increase the awareness and the acceptability of food less known but with great nutritional values.
He continued by stressing the need to increase funding in technology, both in the "food" area, to identify suitable ingredients to improve the organoleptic characteristics and the durability of organic foods, both for the "packaging", with the aim of identifying low environmental impact materials to ensure the durability of organic products.
